Service Description

This class is intended as an expansion of the Build Your Watch manual-wind class. No experience needed. We will provide each student with a movement (generally the ST3600) which we will take apart, clean, and reassemble to become familiar with the basics of watch repair. We have basic tool kits for sale, which can include screwdrivers, tweezers, hand pushers, and a magnifying visor, depending on your needs. We can provide other tools on request. If you have your own tools you would like to use, just let us know! • 8 sessions of 2-3 hours each, held over the course of 8 weeks • Intro to the basics of tool uses and care (sharpening techniques, the importance of tool maintenance, etc.) • Workspace set-up • Parts identification • Disassembly and reassembly of a watch movement • Cleaning basics, using hand-cleaning and machine cleaning • Oiling techniques • Timing and adjusting a serviced watch movement • Casing a serviced movement o Week 1: Kit distribution; tool maintenance overview; oil cup fill; workplace set up; initial watch inspection o Week 2: Parts identification on movement; movement side disassembly o Week 3: Parts id on movement; dial side disassembly o Week 4: Reassembly of movement o Week 5: Disassembly of entire movement; movement cleaning started o Week 6: Reassembly of cleaned movement; oiling techniques o Week 7: Diagnosing and resolving common errors after cleaning o Week 8: Casing; timing and adjusting of movement
